Hevron is one of the most holy places in Eretz Yisrael and we all know the story for Avraham that bought the Cave of the Patriarchs together with the surrounding feels from Efron. The cave was bought for a burial place for his wife Sarah. From then on and until our days Hevron has mostly had a Jewish present there. For hundreds of years Torah has been studied in Hevron. Yeshiva Shavei Hevron was founded in the heart of the Hevron throughout the years 1980-1982, with the purpose of returning the Strength of Torah to the city of Hevron. Since then, Shavei Hevron has grown and today, the Yeshiva has a student body of about 300 students and about 80 of them, are married. These students’ study with great self-sacrifice, bravery and happiness.
Foundation of Shavei Hevron
In 1981, 10 yeshiva boys started to learn in the newly established Yeshiva Shavei HevrinWhich was and still is housed in the Romano building under the leadership of Rav Moshe Bleicher, shlit”a. During those hard years, the yeshiva students and visitors could hear Rav Moshe Bleicher announcing that hundreds of yeshiva students would ultimately occupy the benches in in the Beit Midrash in Hevron in the future …..
Shavei Hevron Today
Shavei Hevron is the flagship Yeshiva in Hevron today and all of Rabbi Moshe Bleicher´s wishes has come true. The Yeshiva is today headed by Rabbi Hananel Etrog and with his staff the Yeshiva is growing stronger all the time. As we can see, in 1980 the Yeshiva had 10 students and today nearly 40 years later more then 300 students are learning in the Beit Medrash every day.
